THE WORLD IS
NOT ENOUGH
1999

Pierce Brosnan’s third Bond movie, The World Is Not Enough (1999), began shooting on the 11 January 1999. This time cast and crew were able to utilise Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, England as their production base for the film. Highlights in the archive include some shots of Brosnan and the new BMW Z8 car on location in Baku, Azerbaijan. There are many stills that illustrate the pre title sequence including the boat chase on the river Thames in London, which ends with the death of the exotic cigar girl (Maria Grazia Cucinotta). In terms of promotional material there are some stunning shots of actress Sophie Marceau as Elektra King and some poignant stills of Desmond Llewelyn (12 September 1914 – 19 December 1999), in what would be his final appearance in the treasured role of Q. In 2000, after the film had completed its run in theatres, Brosnan was celebrated by MGM as ‘Billion Dollar Bond’ in recognition of the combined box office revenues of his three Bond movies. Stills photographers are credited as Keith Hamshere and Jay Maidment (second unit). Additional contributions to this section of the archive are from Laurent Perriot.
